Six Shooter Radio Shows

James Stewart starred as Brett Ponset in the Six Shooter radio western. Brett was a man with a reputation for having a fast gun but Mr. Stewart portrayed a character different from a hard, tough-talking gun slinger.

Brett is a slow-talking, thinking man who doesn't reach for his gun first and ask questions later. He's ready with his gun, but uses it only when necessary. Of course, Mr. Stewart fits the character very well. The first appearance of Brett Ponset as the Six Shooter was as a Western drama for the Hollywood Star Playhouse on April 13, 1952. It was titled "The Six Shooter", as the series was eventually named. The series pilot aired over a year later on July 15, 1953, featuring the same script as the Hollywood Star Playhouse version.

This script was again used, with a slightly different opening, on Nov. 1, 1953, for the seventh show in the series. The actual Six Shooter series started on Sunday, July 15, 1953 and remained a Sunday show until the end of March, 1954. At that time, it moved to Thursday. The last Six Shooter radio show aired June 24, 1954. The writer for the entire series was Frank Burt.
